Hey everyone! It’s Ron from Hope Unfiltered, and I hope you’re ready for some great conversation today because it’s going to be me holding down the fort on this episode. Hope couldn’t make it, but I promise you I’ve got something special lined up. Today, I’m beyond excited to chat with my friend and respected pastor, Travis Greene.
Now, let me tell you, Travis is one of those rare individuals who’s truly excelled in multiple arenas – from being an artist and worship leader to stepping into the role of an impactful pastor. It’s no small feat to navigate those worlds with such grace and excellence. I’ve seen a lot of people try, but very few really pull it off like he has.
Travis and I started off discussing our family lives, and let me tell you, I’ve reached that point in my life where raising kiddos is a rollercoaster. I remember when we had three under four, and oh boy, I thought I was going to lose it all! Now that they’re older, it feels like I’m spending more time learning how to navigate their teenage antics. You know how it is; being a dad can be a wild ride!
At 40, Travis is at a pivotal age where he’s really reflecting on life, and he’s right on the money when he talks about how the years from 40 to 50 can bring a significant change in perspective. You begin to recognize what really matters. We both agree that character, integrity, and a genuine connection with God aren’t just buzzwords—they’re core values that guide our lives as men and as leaders.
As we got deeper into our discussion, it became apparent that there’s a generational shift happening within the Church—one that I feel caught up in. Y’all know I’ve had the privilege of being mentored by giants like Bishop Jakes, and in this hybrid space between the old and new, I often wonder what needs to shift.
What excites me, though, is watching how Travis represents his generation by blending compassion with biblical principles. The diversity of today’s culture calls for an adaptable church, a consensus we echoed throughout our talk. But we also recognized a danger in veering too far into seeker-friendly territory at the expense of sound doctrine. It’s a balancing act, and I get that people can get scarred from the past, but we need to reclaim that balance without losing sight of what truly matters.
Travis shared some poignant thoughts about how the younger generation is hungry for authenticity. They’re seeking a genuine relationship with Jesus rather than an experience that feels shallow or scripted. And boy, does that resonate with me! I think it’s so key for us to build environments that are both spiritually rich and relatable.
In a world where churches can feel like businesses more focused on numbers than on lives transformed, Travis emphasizes a pursuit of righteousness over simply being relevant. At the end of the day, it’s about fulfilling God’s calling on our lives, building families that thrive, and living with integrity that draws people to Christ.
You should really listen to the full episode for the gems we explored around stewardship and how that ties into living a blessed and meaningful life! I can’t stress enough how refreshing it was to have those conversations—real, raw, and relevant!
If you want to dive in deeper, check out Travis’s new book, “Are You Praying for the Wrong Thing?” I’m telling you, it’s packed with insights about shifting our focus from merely seeking blessings to stewarding what we already have.
Thank you all for tuning in to this episode. I appreciate your support, and I hope you felt the vibe of authenticity and pursuit of excellence in every word. Until next time, bless you and everyone connected to you!
